And you, Amy! Doing a lot of walking today, enjoying seeing little ones on the backs of bicycles, dressed in red and white, and dogs with kerchiefs, same, and all sorts... Feels festive!
Writing only a little, as I am leaving one writing spot for my new home, an hour eastward to Durham Region, on July 31. I expect time spent writing to increase exponentially after that. I will have a dedicated studio space in a home entirely my own, since son & I pooled our funds and bought a duplex with two separate-but-adjoined apartments. Happy Canada Day! May we grow ever closer to our glorious potential, individually and collectively, in 2025 and beyond.
oh! Your new home sounds very good. YES to pooling funds as a family--more often than not now, the only way to do it. For many reasons. Love the sound of a "dedicated studio space!"
Thanks, Alison, for these interesting and helpful comments on POV. I really like the idea of colour coding the characters. I will try that. Happy Canada Day...we're so blessed to live in this country even with its foibles.
This is incredibly helpful. POV is always sticky for me too. I'm going to try this method for my own novel to make sure it's all making sense. Thank you for sharing your method!
Hope you take enough time off to have fun on Canada Day, Alison!

I'm curious to know how it goes...!
"Now, she wondered how much he’d guessed. And wished she was back in the van—Rusty Blue—blanket over her head, and sound asleep."
vs
"Now, she wondered how much he’d guessed. And wished she was back in the van, blanket over her head, and sound asleep."
Seems to flow better without the interruption, doesn't it?
Though I am a fan of the em-dashes...
Point taken. My thinking is that she's reminding herself what the van is called.... But it has yet to go through the read-aloud test!
Maybe add a second sentence? 'oh, right, she's named that stupid thing..."
