I’d like to write a book - either about making changes for oneself or in ones business - which is part “advice” part “humour”. In otter words my story is intended to be humorous but also “reading between the lines” contains practical tips to achieve the change. Have you any tips on how to incorporate both?

Hi Mark! I just checked out your Substack--which appears to be along the lines of what you're proposing for a book! Good.

I'll work on an answer to this--keep an eye out for it. Thank you so much for your question!

Thanks Alison. No rush. I’m very much still in embryonic learning about Substack / how to best do what I think I want to do stage. & I’m retired so there’s a bucket full of other stuff I want to do too.

I don’t think I’ve quite got my pitch nor the writing content quite right yet, but yes “practical know to change insight” offered up in a informal, story oriented, hopefully mildly humorous way - is I think what I’m aiming for.

Premise being that if you give someone a way of remembering something (eg stories / fun / known quotes / music lyrics) then they are more likely to remember and thus get said change done.

Help with approaches to writing as such (ie maybe a method) is oh my research / test out list.

As above tho, no rush, I retired for a reason (not to spend all day working being one).

"Not to spend all day working"--yes! Very good. I'll be posting thoughts soon. I try to write answers that are useful for others to read, too. So I'm including thoughts on how to develop humour... Thank you for your question. I always enjoy working on these annual series.

I don't have a question but a request for some short writing exercises that get the imagination flowing. For example, there is one where you spend 1 or 2 minutes writing down every word you can think of that begins with a letter. Do the same with another letter. Then spend a few timed minutes making a poem for those lists of words.

Oh! Like this quick one!!

All right--I'll put together a list, and if others add to it, that would be fun, too!
