Thanks so much for featuring me, my book and the macarons! It was so great to see you and I'm delighted your mom is enjoying the books. I agree, down time can bring on all kinds of ideas. I also write while flying. (one can get a lot done on a 9 hour flight!)
Thank you, Alison. A little milestone I wanted to share: for the first time in a quarter century as a full-time writer ... I turned down a commission because it didn’t interest me. I’m still waiting for the freelance gods to strike me down. I took the decision to be honest with my publishers about the fact that (a) I’ll be writing fewer textbooks because (b) I want to pursue fiction. They’ve been lovely and supportive. I’ve worked with them for 25 and 15 years respectively and it’s always been a relationship built on trust, but this was a huge leap for me.
Thanks for the newsletter! This is my third year of doing NaNo. It has helped me get writing, but here I am commenting instead of working on my manuscript! I don't expect to win the challenge of writing 50K words (November is a month of busy weekends.); but it gives me a concrete number of words to work towards.
Ah, the momentary change is better than a rest...and back to it! Thank you for sharing. Maybe for the January newsletter, you might share something of the experience :)

"turned down a commission"
I understand this fully, and know that 'Congratulations!' are in order.
The freelance gods have retired to the basement and are doing their laundry at last. They will not be pestering you; they have been found out.
Here's to Huge Leaps!
Thanks for the reassurance 😊
