I was trying to see what that was... but no, if I enlarge the photo, it appears to be a padded footstool. (?) A spittoon would be far more fun, though. Then the piano would have to be an old-school player...

I really liked the “mulling & tinkering” concept, it’s just truth. It feels this way.
