Writing Time vs Promoting Time
A poll you may have missed --
Toward the end of the August 1 newsletter, there was a poll—two, actually.
I’d like to write a piece based on your responses, but only one person has weighed in!
I’m sending it out again as its own piece. (That one person… feel free to re-do your responses, please!)
The polls are looking at the amount of time you spend writing versus the time you spend on promoting your work. This is something I struggle with, and I can only guess that many of you do, too.
So over Sunday coffee (or after a day of Monday work), fill in.

PROMOTION includes building your “platform” before you’ve ever published in any public way—as in before your entire public career is launched or before your next book/project.
This first poll is for “Where’s the mix for you AT THIS MOMENT?”
AND: What would you like for this mix to be in your writing life?
This was difficult question for me as So much promo is done just prior and during the first few months after release. I do almost no writing during that time! But I am very uneven about my writing schedule at the best of times. Still, given that not everything we write (especially true for PB writers) I am happy if I can get a book out every year or two . I have never loved promo, but I want my books to reach readers, so I am willing to do what I can to get them out there.
I can't seem to answer the poll but for what it's worth, I'd say for the first question, 40-60, for the second, 80-20 (my hope is to flip those by the end of the year, though!)
