I’m not convinced that there are substantial short cuts to a first complete draft, other than doing my best to capture it all on “paper” as quickly as possible even if scenes are not fully fleshed out. A complete first draft feels something like a large block of stone from which I can begin to chip away, to carve, find the shape within, and then discover and polish the detail in the carving. But first, I need the stone block.
