Look at that thing: an empty head—you can see right to the back of the skull. Rotting, ugly, with dots of mold, and the teeth starting to shrink and pull inwards and… ugh.

I’m recognizing something here, though. My current re-writing brain is seeing its counter-part and feeling it—doubly this week! I’m going to share something of the process with you as I’m in the midst of it. I always feel as if this is “real writing.” The digging, the immersion. I couldn’t be in this space all the time; I’d fall to pieces. It messes sleep patterns and makes me somewhat unsociable. My conversations get erratic, and I jump from topic to topic…

A couple years ago I posted a piece on working to re-enter an abandoned work. Much of my thought on that applies to any re-write, really.

Though now, I’m not talking about an “abandoned” work. I’ll share the link to it for your review, and then move on to the update.
